Explore pairs of numbers that make 10 using simple objects that children can move and regroup.

Instructions

Place all 10 counters where the child can see them. Move some counters into the first bowl and ask the child to place the rest in the second bowl. Count both groups and say the number sentence aloud, such as 4 plus 6 makes 10. Mix the counters and find at least four different pairs. Ask what changes and what stays the same each time.
